SHALEM INVESTMENT

About Shalem

Shalem is a profit-making social enterprise that was registered as a limited liability company in the year 2015. Shalem collects grains from a network of 27,450 farmers out of which 18,090 are female. Shalem has established a market linkage through agreements with large organizations such as supermarkets, East Africa breweries, animal feeds producers, vegetable oil manufactures and maize millers providing a ready market to their network of farmers. They equally train the farmers on good agricultural practices, managing postharvest losses, provide farmers access to affordable farm inputs and pay them promptly.

Shalem had a challenge of inadequate grain storage and handling capacity due to lack of proper and well-equipped grain aggregation points for their farmers. They equally lacked proper grain measuring equipment and preservation facilities which lead to increased post-harvest losses.
